Art Displays + Installations
Visit the 2010 Los Angeles Art Show and explore the mediums and methods of the visual image in a myriad display of art installations, sculpture, and video work. Highlighted with the participation of regional-area Arts Organizations and Museums, the Show’s art spaces provide a panoramic slice of the of the city’s expanded creative engagements.  Following is a cap on some of 2010’s art happenings.
This exhibition brings together Legendary Street Artists Mear One, Kofie, Retna, and El Mac to the Los Angeles Art Show for daily live art performances, curated by Bryson Strauss of L.A. Art Machine. What originated in the U.S. as the “tag” has evolved into one of the most sophisticated and challenging forms of contemporary art. This event recognizes the talents of these four artists while celebrating the historic journey and enduring nature of graffiti art, from the caves of Lascaux to the spas of Pompeii and from the streets of Los Angeles to the walls of galleries around the world. Working on large-scale canvases provided bu LUCIUS HUDSON, the artists will begin their work on January 20 and will paint live each day from noon to 6 PM, culminating in a closing ceremony on Sunday, January, 24, 2010 at 2PM, outside the main entrances of West Hall A

Organized by the L.A. ART MACHINE and curated by Bryson Strauss, VOX HUMANA is a live art performance by legendary Los Angeles street artists Mear One, Kofie, Retna, and El Mac that will take place during the L.A. Art Show, January 20 – 24, 2010.

Using large-scale canvases, the artists will begin their work on January 20 and will paint live each day from noon to 6 PM. Using acrylic and aerosol paints, Retna and El Mac will collaborate on a canvas that is 12 x 24 feet, while Kofie and Mear One will work independently on 12 x 12 foot canvases. Los Angeles Art Show attendees are invited to witness the completion of the works on Sunday, January 24, 2010 at 2 PM, and participate in a closing celebration.

While much attention has recently been given to street artists in the fine art world with the rise in celebrity of Shepard Fairey, Banksy, and Gajin Fujita, VOX HUMANA marks the first time that a top-tier art fair has recognized, and celebrated the evolution, power, and artistic integrity of street artists in such a bold and public manner. The L.A. Art Show is making history.

This is a new mural my good friend Mac and I just did.

I was a great time as usual hanging with the brethren, Miami what can I say, again my gratitude to all who made it possible Primary Flight, Books , Typoe, Lynnieroc, my man Hox had a few tricks up his sleeve, to make it work, Slow n the TCP fam, the MSG players.  To all the good people of Miami who always have a way of putting there best foot forward and dealing with all their lil step children who come in town to parlay for the holiday, THANK YOU.

So as you know MacDog paints the magnificent portrait of a man he met in SF, he told me a lil about him, so I took off from there.

Two people came by and helped with the title the first was the photographer for the Herald. He Said “Seeing Signs” which I liked a lot. Then another lady came buy and said her and the city of Miami had already taken ownership and called it the “CONDUCTOR” hence the name .  Seeing Signs ” aka the Conductor…. Playing the sounds of the street following the signs on the walls.

Heres what is sais,

IF I TOLD YOU A STORY
WOULD YOU LISTEN TO WHAT
I HAD TO SAY,

THE VOICE
IN MY HEAD NO ME DEJA
DESCANSAR, LA VIDA,

SO AQUI VA LA CUENTA

HACE MUCHO TIEMPO
NACIO UNA TRADICION DE
MI GENTE
CALLEJERA

DE LA TIERRA SOMOS
COMO LAS CENIZAS VOLANDO
CON EL VIENTO, A UN
DESTINO
ESTRANO,
LA NOCHE ESTAN LLENA
DE COLORES

PINTAMOS LAS PARED
DE TODOS NOS VARRIOS
DE NUESTRA TERRITORIAS
Y TE DEHAMOS LA
MURALIA HECHO CON
LA SANGRE DE MI
PERDIDAS HERMANOS

UN DIA REGRESERAMOS
UNTIL THE END OF TIME,
TO RUN THIS AGAIN

LET ME REST ON MY LAST DAYS
THROUGH PEICES

LOS VAGOS DE LA CALLE SOMOS
LOS NINOS DE FUERZA
Y TENEMOS LAS MARKAS

Translation

IF I TOLD YOU A STORY
WOULD YOU LISTEN TO WHAT
I HAD TO SAY,

THE VOICE
IN MY HEAD, DOESNT LET ME REST
IN LIFE.

SO HERE GOES THE ACCOUNT

A LONG TIME AGO
A TRADITION WAS BORN
FROM MY PEOPLE
OF THE STREET.

FROM THE DIRT WE ARE,
LIKE THE ASHES FLYING
WITH THE WIND, TO A
UNKNOWN DESTINATION

THE NIGHT IS FILLED WITH COLORS.

WE PAINT THE WALLS
OF ALL THE HOODS
OF OUR TERRITORIES
AND WE LEAVE YOU THE
MURALS MADE WITH THE
THE BLOOD
OF MY LOST BROTHERS.

ONE DAY WE WILL RETURN
UNTIL THE END OF TIME
TO RUN THIS AGAIN

LET ME REST ON MY LAST DAYS
THROUGH PEICES.

THE VAGRANTS OF THE STREET WE ARE
AS WELL AS THE KIDS OF FORCE,
AND WE HAVE THE THE MARKS.

Primary Flight 2009 Teaser from Primary Flight on Vimeo.

Since its inception in 2007, Primary Flight has hosted site specific, street-level, outdoor mural and performance art projects in Miami’s Wynwood Art District during Art Basel each year. This global arts and community collective project combines an international selection of top galleries with an exciting program of street exhibitions, parties, and crossover events featuring music, film, architecture and design. Primary Flight’s annual event in Wynwood is the world’s largest, multi-site, street-level mural installation. In just three years, Primary Flight has grown quickly from 15 to over 100 artists, the majority of whom travel to Miami for Art Basel. Founders of the street, stencil, graffiti, and skate art movements headline the annual event. Artists collaborate on strategically located walls throughout the Wynwood Art District. Maps outlining the installation are circulated, providing patrons with an opportunity to view street works
in process.
